CURRICULUM
CLUB
R.S.G. ANANTABA
This club was founded in the year 1988 thanks to the good
collaboration of some parents, to open the doors to this magnificent sport for their
daughters.
After some long paper walk in offices and public offices, it was accepted as a sport,
without having intentions of gaining profit, and had the possibility of receiving economic
and to promote it.
After many years of promoting the sport in the shorts of the Orotava valley, we have
managed to shape sportswoman qualified to participate in official competitions.
At this moment in time we have approximately 40 girls as members of the club, who with
their 3 specialists, also prepare the approximately 50 youngsters of the town school and
train tem for the school games.
In the years, as 96 and 97, our club always managed to classify a group for the National
Championships (Murcia, Alicante and Seville). In 97, we classified 3 teams for the Spanish
individual championship for clubs. Barcelona). In 98 we attended in Gijon and Zaragoza.
The participants of the school games and in the different competitions in Canary island
often are on the winning stand, and our showcase is full of trophys and medals.
This success makes up for the hard work put in over the years, including the hardships and
suffering that all sports involve.
Our tournament
"Orotava Valley"
It is now the tradition in the "fiestas" of our town to include a
tournament of Rhythmic gymnastics. On Sunday 27 June 1999, the sports Pavilion Quiquirá
de la Villa in Orotava, lived one of the most spectacular sports events that have been
held in the Canary islands. With perfect organisation the club Anantaba, lifted oft the
"XI Tournament of Rhythmic gymnastics of the Orotava valley".
At 10'00 am the most important clubs of the island, from mainland Spain and four clubs
from Berlin were presented along with their gymnastics on the carpet, to compete in
different individual categories. The sports morning closed at 13'30 p. m.
At 16'00, after the respite, in a festival atmosphere outside the pavilion, the
competition began, before a packed audience.
The day finished with different exhibitions by Laura García, the Spanish champion, the
dance group Echeyde and the E.M. of Orotava each different, funny and interesting,
bringing the evening up to 20'00.
The championship ended with a sparkling final act and the rhythm of samba. The trophies
were then presented by authorities of the Orotava town Hall, the Canarian federation of
gymnasts and from mainland Spain. Thank you everybody.

100 years of gymnastics in the Canary islands.
From the use of several documents, we know that the Spanish gymnastic
federation, today the "Royal Spanish Federation of Gymnastics) was created the 15th
June 1898, under the presidency of Alejandro San Martin.
The first president of the Spanish Federation was the well known politician José
Canalejas y Méndez, who among many other offices, became the president of the Spanish
Government. The first Provincial Delegate was Alberto Berac with which shows that the
Canary Island are within the Century of Spanish Gymnastics.
The first meeting of Spanish Federation of Gymnastics took place in Madrid the 26 th
September 1899 and the Canarian representatives were Vicente Llorente Matos and Pedro
Pioggio Alvarez. after several meetings, the documents were lost, but we know that
gymnastic activities continued, specially in Las Palmas. In 1952 the name of the Spanish
Federation of gymnastics was changed and in 1995 on the 2nd march they conceded
to put "Royal" before the title, which is the actual are now.
In 1956 the Canarian Federation of gymnastics was created with Jesus Telo Nuñez as the
president, and for Las Palmas and Tenerife Andrés Mateos Santana. The first championship
were celebrated in this epoch.
The Canarian Federation has since been presided for José Miguel Molowny Barreto, Gloria
Cáceres Pulido, María Asunción Pardello Vela and the actual president Diana Malo de
Molina y Zamora. In 1994 in Tenerife María Angela Montesinos Herrera was elected, she
stopped in 1997 and it is now in the hands of Maria Asunción Pardillo Vela.
We will not inform you of all the successes of our gymnasts, only of Merche Vernetta who
reached the Olympics from Las Palmas in artistic gymnastics.
We would also like to mention that the Canarian Federation of gymnastics has participants
in all the different groups that exist for the Royal Spanish Federation of gymnastics,
something that only occurs in four federations.
